About Claudette

I am a clairsentient cat-lover who reads tarot from the same deck I've had for thirty years. I’m also a comms strategist, writer, and event producer who works with people like you to grow the planet we want to call home. I grew up going to astrology (and Tupperware) parties with my mother in the 1970s, which means I cook with symbols and love it when the leftovers stack nicely together. I use tarot readings as a conduit to magic—your magic. I have been to every state except Alaska and have called Asheville, NC, home since 2007. I’m a big-picture detail-oriented INFJ who spends her spare time re-watching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. You?

How I Work with Tarot

The following explains how I understand, relate to, and read tarot cards.

Tarot was (and is still) a card game.

The Visconti-Sforza deck is the oldest surviving deck of tarot cards. It was created for the Duke of Milan’s family in the mid-fifteenth century and was used to play a game similar to bridge. In some places, Tarot is still played as a game—in France, there is even an official governing body!

And the cards also tell stories...

The images on tarot cards are also symbolic. Each card can have many meanings or represent different influences. Just like a picture of a dog can represent “protection” or “best friend” or “threat” depending on the context, the same is true for the cards. So it’s important not to get hung up on or focus on any single meaning. The symbols together are what tell the story.

...that are indicative, not predictive.

As an activist, you are a visionary. You envision something not yet born— then act to make that vision a reality. Tarot readings may surface symbols related to that path. However, tarot readings do not predict the future or tell fortunes; I cannot predict your future or tell your fortune. Ultimately, the reading is yours. What you do with the symbols that emerge is your choice—and part of the work.

As the reader, I’m the conduit to the symbols. I’m here to ask questions and provide a framework for the discussion.

Areas of Focus

While the reading may take many directions, the work you do day-to-day supports some combination of the following focus areas. Your reading doesn’t have to focus on this, but it’s likely to surface in some way.

  • Animal Rights

  • Arts and Expression

  • Civic Engagement

  • Civil Rights

  • Climate Change

  • Environment

  • Gender Equity

  • Health Care

  • Human Rights

  • Immigrant Rights

  • LGBTQ Rights

  • Public Education

  • Racial Equity and Justice

  • Reproductive Health & Justice

  • Politics & Elections

  • Criminal Justice Reform

  • Voting Rights
